How hard is it to get into a top ranked robotics grad school? Or other stuff like researchy industry jobs, publishing in top conferences etc.

I recently read this post on r/MachineLearning talking about how admission into the top grad schools for machine learning (particuarly deep learning) is now incredibly hard due to the huge number of people trying to get in on machine learning because of all the hype.

I know there’s been a fair bit of hype about robotics recently too (partially fueled by machine learning), so I was wondering if stuff like admission into top robotics grad schools, getting research roles in robotics in industry, and getting published in top conferences has also gotten a lot harder in the last few years.

Also, do you think all the machine learning/deep learning hype will die down soon and make things a bit easier?
