Is the age of 44 too late to start a career in robotics?

Simple question but complicated to answer. I live in the US. I’m a professional 3D designer, I have experience with programming, and 3D printing/ prototyping, solidworks, trying my luck with electronics lately.

I’m wondering if it is worth studying electronics engineering and get into robotics in 4 years. Is it worth the time/financial strain/sacrifice? Is there even a market in the US for someone who wants to design robots for a living? Or would it be more fulfilling to do this as a hobby?
