[N] World championship robot soccer (RoboCup) in Syndey has started (and link to livestream)

The RoboCup consists of several leagues: soccer, rescue, service, care robots. This year it’s held in Sydney. The competitions are to advance the scientific field of robotics and the games are a means. The soccer league consists of 5 ‘sizes’: small, middle, standard, humanoid and simulation. While it’s all very much a scientific ensemble, the Middle Size League (MSL) is actually pretty exciting to watch.

There’s a live stream at robocup.live and a longread on how the MSL soccer robots work at tue.nl/soccer-robots. First matches start at 4 July at 09:00 (local Sydney time, GMT+10).

A MSL soccer robot holding a ball (yellow) draws a 2 meter circle, divides that into 25×25 cm sections, calculates per section how advantageous it is to go there, and chooses.
