My background is more in power electronics/motors/power systems and I don’t really know much about the robotics world. But every once in a while I see some pretty cool articles about some underwater robot or mars rover type thing and think that it’s pretty cool. But I also wonder how much robotic engineers go into power electronics/motors/power systems because that field in itself can be pretty deep and murky. I imagine most robots have some off the shelf motor? Are there any university labs that study this specifically and optimize the power system design or motor design for a robot? Where are they getting their robots? Do they have the students build it themselves or just contract out (and to who?)? Thanks!
